Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Austin Daye posted 22 points in a rare spot start, helping the San Antonio Spurs take down the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-93 on Saturday. Daye shot 8-for-13 and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds in his second start of the season to lead six Spurs in double figures. Patty Mills gave 19 points off the bench and Tim Duncan shot 5-for-6 for 13 points in limited minutes. We needed someone to step up...and we got a great boost from (Daye), Duncan said. He played with a lot of confidence. Tony Parker and Cory Joseph netted 12 points apiece and Boris Diaw had 11 for San Antonio, which was without Kawhi Leonard (hand) for the 13th straight game. Manu Ginobili also sat out with a back injury after playing just 10 minutes in Fridays win over Phoenix. The Spurs have won four of their last five games, but are just 8-8 without Leonard this season. Zach LaVine paced Minnesota with 19 points off the bench, while Andrew Wiggins and Gorgui Dieng finished with 18 apiece. The Wolves made all 26 of their free throws to set a franchise record for most makes without a miss from the line. Wiggins has scored in double figures in 10 straight, though the Timberwolves have lost 15 in a row since beating Portland on Dec. 10. Daye scored five in a row at the back end of an 11-0 run towards the end of the first quarter. Joseph then drew a foul just before the horn, with his free throws giving the Spurs a 27-18 lead after one. They won the next two quarters by a combined 11 points to take a 20-point lead into the fourth. Minnesota got within 13 points midway through the fourth and had two opportunities to cut its deficit to 10, but Robbie Hummel and Troy Daniels missed 3s on consecutive possessions. LaVines three-point play made it 100-89 with 2:04 remaining, but it was too late for Minnesota to mount a comeback. They were just a better team, Dieng said of the Spurs. Albertville prosecutor Patrick Quincy said "no infraction by anyone has been turned up" and the probe has been closed, his office said in a statement -- responding to questions about whether the Meribel ski station in the French Alps or an equipment maker might have had some role in Schumachers injury. The 45-year-old German auto racing legend suffered serious head injuries on Dec. 29 when he fell and hit the right side of his head on a rock off the side of a demarcated slope in Meribel. Schumacher has been treated at Grenoble University Hospital in southeastern France since then. Quincys office said the rock that caused Schumacher to fall was 10.4 metres (34 feet) away from another rock upon which he hit his head -- and each were more than 4 metres away from the edge of the red-level piste that he was on. "Thee accident took place in an off-piste area," the prosecutors statement said.dddddddddddd. "The signage, marking, staking and information provided about the edges of this slope adhere to French norms in place." For many fans, the biggest concern is about Schumachers health and recovery prospects -- and doctors have started waking him from an induced coma. The most recent in a string of statements from his spokeswoman was released last week but declined to provide further details about his health, citing privacy concerns. Experts have said it will likely be months before Schumachers prognosis becomes clear -- and that lasting brain damage is a possibility. Schumacher earned universal acclaim for his uncommon and sometimes ruthless driving talent, which led to a record 91 race wins. He retired from Formula One in 2012 after garnering an unmatched seven world titles. His accident happened on a family vacation in the Alps as Schumacher was skiing with his 14-year-old son. ' ' ' |
